A Little About

Garrett Michael Stapleton, Himself

“My name is Garrett M Stapleton. I was a Boston Firefighter for 23 years. Supplementing my income, I waited on tables in a downtown Boston restaurant for ten years and tended a bar for another ten years in South Boston. I feel everyone should have to work in the food serving business and see how tough and demanding it is. I’m sure they’d be more tolerant of waiters and bartenders if they experienced how difficult those jobs actually are. I was born and raised in South Boston, Massachusetts, with my two older brothers, Leo and Edward, and two younger sisters, Jennifer and Amanda. My parents, Leo D, and Doris M Stapleton, were the bedrocks of our upbringing. I feel we were very fortunate to have them teach us the ways of the world.

More About Garrett Stapleton

I was always a sports fan, playing baseball, football, and hockey as a child. It was my father’s love of firefighting, and his recommendation, that my older brother, Leo, and I take—the civil service examination to become Boston Firefighters. I’m so glad I heeded his advice, as it was a career I truly enjoyed, and I wouldn’t trade a second of it. In 2001, after my retirement, I relocated to the Massachusetts suburbs. I spend as much time as possible visiting my two daughters, Courtney Stapleton and January Stewart, as well as my three grandchildren–Max, Summer, and Lennon. I count myself as a fortunate individual and will always be grateful for the life provided to me. I had an idea for this book and began not knowing if I could write one. As time passed, I became more and more excited, realizing I could complete this work. I really enjoyed writing “4th & Long: A Gridiron Parable,” and I hope you enjoy reading it too!”
